  • a few things...

here are some things i never want to forget about this summer with my son....

    1. that in our attempt to keep him away from hot items, such as ovens and such, we somehow instead have him saying "hot" every single time he sees a light.  he'll even run over to our lamp saying "hot, hot, hot..." as he turns it on.  so-- we'll see how reversing this process goes...so far it's been rough.  we say "light" and he responds quickly with "hot"...like he thinks he really did just say "light".  ha.

    2. i never want to forget how DANG cute it is to see my son break down into a dancing frenzy.  it's the best.  he looks down & concentrates on his complicated footwork (which involves running in place as fast as he can)-- and sometimes he'll throw in a quick spin.  way too cute.

    3. henry has learned how to kiss-- anything and everything.  he'll do it on command to you, your friend, a blanket, whatever.

    4. he climbs...and does it very well.  it's rough trying to keep him OFF the kitchen table these days.  but it's cute to see him climb up into the van as we're off to go someplace.

    5. cutest thing ever yesterday while i was at work-- case said henry woke up and as he was changing him henry went on to talk.  first he said the typical "hot" as he pointed at the light above his head.  then he looked at casey and started saying "mama, mama, ...."  TOO sad.  he missed me right when he woke up!  dang, i was glad case told me this story AFTER i had come back from my last day at work.

    6.  henry's become a big helper at home.  he'll help me with the laundry (the other day he helped load the dryer), he'll bring things over to me & go get them, whatever he can do to feel like he's doing his part in this family.

    7.  he's loved doing a garden with me this summer.  it's been fun to enjoy more of the produce as the tomatoes have been coming.  henry LOVES going out there and finding the right tomatoes to pick (with mom's help, of course!).  i think he's getting that the ripe ones are red now...we had a green casualty early on b/c he picked faster than i could stop him!

    8. that babies are SO smart and once they understand a word they can apply it to any situation.  example-- i taught henry "yucky" to get him to stop putting dirt & such in his mouth.  later the stinker started tossing a cob of corn that he didn't want to eat away as he yelled "yucky, yucky...."  shoot, why in the world didn't i start by teaching him the positive side of things?  next word on the list to learn is yummy.....

ps. i don't have pics to post b/c it's super hard to take pics of my son these days.  he's way too fast for my slow digital camera & i constantly keep snapping pics of NOTHING in my attempts to catch him.  hopefully i can snap one of him soon and get some updates on here....

  • summer days...

the other day casey kindly alerted me that henry was in dire need of a haircut.  he didn't have to say anything...he just styled his hair after a bath one night.

henry's had a blast exploring our yard this summer.

we have a toad living in our backyard that henry has befriended.  he spent an afternoon playing with it last week, which mostly involved chasing it around.  he caught it once or twice, would look at it, and then toss it far away.  i guess touching a toad isn't quite as fun as chasing it.

we just got turned down for campus housing at trinity, so now the search is on for an apartment.  we'll go down sometime in the next week or so to check a few out and hopefully line something up.  kinda crazy to think of what our lives are going to be like shortly.  we'll see how juggling owning a house up here and renting one down there goes.  we've got our "roommate" lined up for our house up here-- bill's such a sweethear-- it will be fun for us to get to know him better.  and how awesome to have someone up here renting and watching our house for us during the week!  i'm looking forward to the weekend drives home-- it will make sure that case & i can have some good catching up time each week.  ha, we'll just see if henry cherishes the drives that much... i'm still working on deciding what i'll do jobwise.  i'm keeping my casual job up here regardless, so it's just a matter of deciding if i'm going to pick up a job at a hospital down there or if i'll just do random odd jobs (music lessons & gigs).

henry's getting over his first bout with croup-- NOT fun.  so sad to see your child barking like a seal and struggling to breathe.  we'll see if that fever will finally stop spiking.  he's in such a great stage of life right now.  he's got the walking thing down, well-- relatively, the falls are still a usual occurrence.  he's got down waving goodbye, nodding his head "yes" & "no", giving high fives, and just today started to work on the guy handshake or fist bump.  and of course, dancing is always a MUST for henry.  it's definitely cute to watch.  he says "mama" & "dada"...and i'm still working "please".   he's really into mimicking everything i do...i'm always trying to keep him entertained thinking he can help me with what i'm doing.  if i sweep the floors he needs to finish up after me, if i garden he's right there next to me digging...if case is on the computer, henry's right next to him tapping away on his own computer keyboard (case has an extra).  it's super cute.

  • changes

so things have been changing for us...and fast.  as of just last week we are now planning on moving late this summer back down to trinity for casey to finish up his last 1.5 yrs at teds.  the extra crazy part is that case is going to still keep his job up here during that time, but just do it part-time.  so we'll be back up here most weekends and on breaks.  kinda crazy, but it's what we're really feeling called to do.  we're excited but definitely are in a big period of transition!

i promise to post pics of henry's birthday bash really soon!

  • tryin' hard

phew, this new desire to post every two weeks (yes, i decided my weekly goal was too ambitious) is still pretty difficult.  bear with me, i'm tryin'....

henry's favorite place in the world.  literally, the kid is always trying to get there and once he's there he could stay there FOREVER.

the other day he decided it was time for him to scale the basement stairs...and he did it!  (okay, with a tiny bit of help from dad)

you know, i never knew that baby teeth don't always come in evenly.  i thought that after henry had 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top that he would just keep having teeth come in a circle-like fashion.  well now he officially has 2 on the bottom still...with 4, going on 5 on the top.  what??  pretty cute.  he's also got a new hobby, which made casey add a new nickname to the list..."houdini".  see for yourself....

and here's one right before his first haircut...he did pretty well.  i was just thankful that with all of the wrestling casey had to do with him to keep him on his lap no one lost an eye from the ordeal!
